Mississippi Offers Deer Management Assistance Program for Landowners

Landowners in Mississippi seeking to improve deer management can benefit from the state’s Deer Management Assistance Program, or DMAP, according to the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks.

Successful deer management starts with setting clear goals for a property. To evaluate progress, managers are encouraged to keep detailed records, including harvest data, observation reports, camera surveys, browse surveys, and food plot use observations, the department said.

For more than 45 years, DMAP has helped landowners and leaseholders collect and analyze deer data. The program connects participants with wildlife biologists to track trends over time, compare data regionally, and maintain a historical record of management efforts.
