Mississippi Department of Wildlife Offers Free Deer Management Program for Landowners

The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks (MDWFP) has launched its Deer Management Assistance Program, a free initiative aimed at helping private landowners manage their properties for healthy deer populations and habitat preservation.

Participants in the program receive site-specific harvest recommendations and land management advice based on data collected by MDWFP. This information helps improve deer herd management across the state.

MDWFP officials emphasize that hunters play a vital role in conserving natural resources. Data gathered through the program is essential for understanding the Mississippi deer herd and planning sustainable management strategies for future generations.

Landowners interested in signing up are encouraged to do so before August 15, 2026, to receive data collection supplies ahead of archery season. For more information or to request a site visit, visit https://www.mdwfp.com/dmap.
