Oxford opens new Medical Examiner’s Office after autopsy backlog cleared

Oxford held a ribbon-cutting ceremony yesterday for its new Medical Examiner’s Office. The event celebrated the facility’s opening following the elimination of the autopsy backlog, according to the Mississippi Department of Public Safety.

The new office is part of a broader effort to strengthen the state’s Medical Examiner system and expand services for communities across North Mississippi, officials said.

State and local officials attended the event, emphasizing the importance of enhanced forensic resources for public safety and justice in the region.
