The Mississippi Department of Public Safety officially opened its first unified headquarters Wednesday, bringing all divisions under one roof for the first time in agency history.
The new facility is designed to enhance collaboration among divisions and improve services to the public, according to a department statement. Officials expressed gratitude to Governor Tate Reeves, the Mississippi Legislature, Lieutenant Governor Delbert Hosemann, Speaker White, and various partners for their support in making the project possible.
The department also announced that the building bears the name of David Huggins, a former Mississippi Highway Patrol Colonel and Department of Public Safety Commissioner. Huggins served from 1988 to 1992 as Highway Patrol Colonel and from 2000 to 2004 as DPS Commissioner. His leadership left a lasting impact on the agency, officials said.
Department leaders said the new headquarters is a proud milestone for the agency and the state. The facility’s dedication underscores Huggins’ legacy of service and commitment to public safety, they added.
