Mississippi man arrested after police find drugs during safety checkpoint

The Prentiss County Sheriff’s Department conducted a safety checkpoint on Aug. 28, 2026, at the intersection of County Road 130 and County Road 3101, according to authorities.

Deputy Ethan Hester saw a silver van attempt to bypass the stop and made contact with the driver, identified as 38-year-old Trevor McCreary of Olive Branch, Mississippi. McCreary was unable to produce a driver’s license, ID, or proof of insurance, and dispatch later confirmed his license was suspended.

Trooper Stewart arrived on scene and offered McCreary a preliminary breath test, which he refused. McCreary was taken into custody for driving with a suspended license. During a search of the vehicle, deputies found a plastic bag with green leafy residue and a black pouch containing four small zip-lock bags — three with a white crystal-like substance and one with residue.

McCreary was transported to the Prentiss County Jail. On Aug. 29, investigator Stolz advised him of his Miranda rights, but he declined to make a statement. Authorities charged him with possession of a controlled substance, specifically methamphetamine, weighing between 2 and 10 grams.

Investigator Stolz plans to present the case to the next Prentiss County grand jury. Deputies Torie Jumper and Kolby Knight assisted in the investigation. McCreary’s bond was set at $5,000 by Justice Court Judge Ray Hall.
