Mississippi to Memorialize WWII Veteran Tech5 Edwin E. Ross

Mississippi will honor Tech5 Edwin E. Ross, a World War II veteran who died in a prisoner of war camp in July 1942, when he is laid to rest Thursday. Ross fought for the United States during the war and lost his life in captivity, according to officials.

Governor Tate Reeves announced that Friday has been proclaimed a day of mourning to pay tribute to Ross and his sacrifice. The veteran’s remains will return to Mississippi for burial, nearly 81 years after his death in the war.

Ross’s family and community members are expected to gather to remember his service and sacrifice, officials said. The ceremony will serve as a reminder of the sacrifices made by service members during World War II.
