Baldwyn School District Students Celebrate Individuality Through Classroom Activities

Students in Mrs. Raines’ kindergarten class at Baldwyn Elementary School have been studying the book “There’s Only One Me” as part of their reading curriculum. The lesson centers on the question, “What makes each of us special?”

According to the district, students discussed topics such as their favorite activities, languages they speak, names, bodies, families, and dreams. They concluded that everyone is different and that being unique is something to be celebrated.

As part of the activity, students created self-portraits using cut-outs, designing their clothes and facial features to reflect their individuality. They also learned about how characters in their weekly stories are each unique and special in their own way.

The district shared that these activities aim to foster self-esteem and appreciation for diversity among young learners. The class’s efforts were shared with the hashtag #heartofabearcat.
