Mississippi faces ongoing flooding and storm damage, officials report
Mississippi officials are assessing the ongoing impact of severe storms and flooding across the state. The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency received reports from several counties detailing damage and response efforts.
In Covington County, preliminary assessments indicate about 10 sites with road and infrastructure damage. Approximately 10 structures experienced minor impacts, and one church reported water intrusion, according to authorities.
Harrison County reported significant flood damage at one of its 10 wastewater treatment facilities operated by the Harrison County Utility Authority. In Stone County, a shelter remains open at Stone County Middle School to assist residents displaced by flooding.
Jackson County saw the closure of Highway 57 at Vestry due to flooding, with ongoing support from the American Red Cross at the shelter. Roads along the Pascagoula River west of Highway 613 are beginning to flood, and the Road Department continues to replenish sandbags as needed.
Hancock County confirmed the occurrence of two EF-1 tornadoes last night. In Pearl River County, officials have identified 22 affected residences, with one business sustaining minor damage. Six public roads and a publicly owned building have also reported impacts. County officials continue to monitor waterways, road conditions, and flood impacts across the region.
