Mississippi updates severity of storm damage and flooding

Mississippi continues to respond to severe storms and flooding, with damage assessments underway across the state, according to officials. The latest figures show hundreds of homes and businesses impacted by the weather event.

Damage estimates include 18 homes destroyed, 110 with major damage, 115 with minor damage, and 74 affected. Three businesses are listed as having major damage, and four with minor damage. One farm has major damage, with others unaffected.

Infrastructure damage includes 16 public roads destroyed, 22 majorly damaged, and 32 minor damages. Authorities report one major and one minor bridge damaged. Three public buildings have major damage, and two public utilities are listed as major damage with two minor utilities affected.

Three shelters remain open in Mississippi: Hancock County Necaise Shelter at 30360 Highway 603 in Perkinson, Harrison County Safe Room at 23715 Saucier Lizana Road in Saucier, and Stone Middle School Shelter at 532A E Central Ave in Wiggins. Additionally, 10 rivers are in minor flood stage and are receding.

State officials say they will continue deploying resources as requested by local emergency managers. The Mississippi Office of Emergency Management urged residents to stay updated and pray for those affected by the storms.
