Mississippi responds to severe storms with ongoing damage assessments and relief efforts

Federal, state, and local agencies are conducting joint damage assessments following severe storms and major flooding in Mississippi, according to officials. The assessments are part of the validation process to determine the extent of the damage.

Reported damages include 150 homes destroyed, 152 with major damage, 154 with minor damage, and 109 affected. Six businesses are listed as destroyed or with major damage, and six more with minor damage. Farms suffered damage, with four categorized as major and one as minor.

Infrastructure damage includes 16 homes destroyed and 24 with major damage to public roads, along with two major and two minor bridge damages. Public buildings have five major and five minor damages, while utilities report six major and 18 minor damages, according to officials.

Three shelters remain open for displaced residents: Hancock County Necaise Shelter in Perkinson, Harrison County Safe Room in Saucier, and Stone Middle School Shelter in Wiggins. The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency said resources continue to be deployed as needed.

Officials expressed gratitude to volunteers, first responders, utility crews, and emergency personnel for their efforts in response and recovery efforts. The state continues to coordinate relief efforts to aid affected communities.
