Mississippi Hosts Gamebird Workshop to Promote Habitat Management
People from across Mississippi and parts of the Southeast attended the Gamebird Workshop at Marion County Wildlife Management Area, according to the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks. The event focused on teaching participants how to improve habitat for turkeys and quail.
Attendees participated in discussions, presentations, and management demonstrations led by conservation professionals. The workshop aimed to provide practical tips for landowners interested in attracting gamebirds or enhancing their property for hunting and conservation purposes.
The event was hosted by Mississippi State University Extension’s Gamebird Program, with support from MDWFP, Quail Forever Mississippi, the National Wild Turkey Federation, The Nature Conservancy, the National Bobwhite and Grassland Initiative, The Longleaf Alliance, and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation.
MDWFP officials encouraged those who missed this year’s workshop to attend next year’s event and emphasized the importance of habitat management for healthy game populations and outdoor recreation.
