Baldwyn student gains hands-on welding experience at Booneville company
Baldwyn Junior Dallas Hurst had a positive shadowing experience at New Way Trucks in Booneville on Tuesday, according to the school district.
Staff members said Hurst performed well while welding during the visit. He toured the facility and observed the assembly process of garbage trucks, gaining a comprehensive look at the manufacturing operations.
Hurst said in a statement that he enjoyed the experience, especially learning MIG welding techniques and meeting the team at New Way. “My takeaway from New Way: The experience I had was enjoyable! I was toured around their building, observing all the different processes of a garbage truck being assembled. After the tour, I got to help weld and assemble the hydraulic equipment on the back piece of the garbage truck, and had a good learning experience with MIG welding, learning effective techniques on welding different ways,” he said. “I am very happy I went, especially for the welding and getting to know some of the people that work there!”
Hurst expressed gratitude to the New Way team for the opportunity. The school district shared his comments on social media, highlighting his enthusiasm for the experience.
