Baldwyn students explored health care, real estate, veterinary care and college career paths
According to Baldwyn School District posts, several Baldwyn High School students spent recent days exploring career paths through shadowing and campus tours. The activities included health care, real estate, veterinary medicine and career-technical training, giving students a closer look at jobs and programs they may consider after high school.
Health care shadowing in Tupelo
The district said juniors Cali McCarver, Laura Grissom and Chloe Barron shadowed at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. Cali and Laura shadowed radiology, while Chloe shadowed pediatrics. The district posted student takeaways describing what they observed during the experience.
According to Cali, she started by looking at CT scans and ended with ultrasounds. Laura said she observed in the MRI unit and saw different types of MRI scans and how different patients act. Chloe said she learned more about how nurses care for children and how patience and kindness matter when working with kids.
Real estate and veterinary experiences
The district also said Baldwyn High School senior Cameil Williams shadowed a realtor at Coldwell Banker in Tupelo as part of a senior project. In the post, Cameil said the experience helped her learn how agents help clients buy and sell homes and showed her what a typical day looks like for a real estate agent.
Another district post said senior A’Keileonna Nichols shadowed under the supervision of Dr. Lakin Taylor and staff at Baldwyn Veterinary Hospital. The post said she learned about ovary-sparing hysterectomy and false pregnancies in dogs, and that she enjoyed seeing the cats there as well.
Career-tech programs at Northeast Mississippi Community College
Baldwyn School District also said seniors Jamarion Robinson, Braylon Hastings and Colton Hayes toured Northeast Mississippi Community College’s CTE programs. The post said they were looking at which programs might fit best, along with Work Keys requirements and job outlooks.
Taken together, the district’s posts show students using local and regional workplaces and programs to compare future options. The experiences were shared by Baldwyn School District on Oct. 14 and Oct. 15, with one post referring to the earlier shadowing as having happened “yesterday” and others describing activities held “today.”
