Baldwyn High School students and one junior took part in separate job-shadowing experiences this week, with each post highlighting a different career field and workplace, according to the Baldwyn School District and Northeast Mississippi Community College.
Media and public relations
According to Northeast Mississippi Community College, Baldwyn High School seniors Kylan Billiups and Jaylan Ewing shadowed the college’s Media Department under the direction of Liz Calvery, Public Relations & Marketing Specialist. Kylan said he learned more than expected and met several people on the team, including Calvery and Sports Director Blake Long. Jaylan said the visit showed how digital media is used to capture moments, tell stories and promote a school.
Health care
The Baldwyn School District said junior Chloe Barron shadowed Katy Wilson, CFNP, at New Albany OB/GYN. Barron said she spent time with a midwife and that the experience made her more interested in the career. Her account said the visit helped her see that becoming a midwife could be a future path for her.
Insurance
Rush Watkins, a Baldwyn High School junior, shadowed Mark Guin of Farm Bureau in Tupelo, according to the Baldwyn School District. Watkins said the experience gave him a better understanding of insurance work and showed him that the job involves helping people, answering questions and building relationships with customers.
Aviation
Also according to the Baldwyn School District, senior Jordan Hougland spent Monday in Holly Springs shadowing Mr. Glen Wilson at Glen Wilson Aircraft, LLC. Hougland said he helped with the disassembly of an aircraft for a prop strike inspection and learned more about general aviation aircraft. The district said Hougland plans to attend Northwest Mississippi Community College and major in Aviation Maintenance Technology after graduation.
