Mississippi Department of Public Safety and local law enforcement agencies coordinated efforts to increase police presence in Oxford ahead of this weekend’s Ole Miss-LSU football game, officials announced.
Commissioner Sean Tindell of the Mississippi Department of Public Safety expressed support for the enhanced security measures. He emphasized that the focus is on ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all visitors and residents.
“This weekend will bring a significant number of visitors to Oxford, and our priority is making sure everyone can enjoy the game and surrounding events safely,” Tindell said. “This enhanced presence is about being prepared, staying proactive and working together.”
He credited law enforcement partners, including the University of Mississippi, the City of Oxford, and Louisiana State Police, for their coordination.
Authorities advise visitors to plan ahead, exercise patience on roadways, and cooperate with law enforcement. Tindell warned that individuals causing trouble or breaking laws could face arrest and jail time.
Ole Miss fans are encouraged to enjoy the game at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium and festivities in The Grove or on the Square. The department reaffirmed its commitment to public safety during the busy weekend.
