JACKSON, Miss. — James Richardson, 40, was sentenced to 18 years in prison after pleading guilty to aggravated assault in Tishomingo County Circuit Court, according to a news release from the district attorney’s office.
Richardson was initially sentenced to 20 years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections, with two years suspended, leaving a remaining sentence of 18 years. The charge stems from an assault on Robert Andrew Huddleston Jr. on Oct. 2, 2022.
The case is connected to that of Randy Barrett Kelly, who pleaded guilty earlier this week to second-degree murder in the same incident. Kelly was sentenced to 30 years in prison, the release said.
The Tishomingo County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case, with Investigator Adam Kostelansky leading the probe. The district attorney’s office credited Kostelansky and the sheriff’s office for their work in securing the convictions. The Belmont Police Department also assisted in apprehending Richardson.
Assistant District Attorney Clay Cummings prosecuted the case on behalf of the state, according to the release.
