IOKA, Miss. — A Mississippi man was sentenced Tuesday to 15 years in prison for identity theft, according to court records.
David Jerome Peek, 45, pleaded guilty to two counts of identity theft, which involved using stolen bank account information to purchase a vehicle and other items, said Circuit Court Judge Kelly Mims.
Peek was originally sentenced to 30 years, with 15 years suspended. He will serve the remaining 15 years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections. The sentence also includes five years of post-release supervision.
The case was investigated by the Tishomingo County Sheriff’s Office, with lead investigator Jamie Reynolds. Assistant District Attorney Clay Cummings prosecuted the case on behalf of the state.
The District Attorney’s Office commended law enforcement for protecting personal privacy and the sanctity of victims’ information, according to a news release.
